CDK GYENCHA

I am a Bhutanese textile practitioner, fashion designer, and social entrepreneur. With over nine years of experience in hand-loomed fabrics, I have made my mark beyond Bhutan by blending exquisite heritage craftsmanship with modern design.

My work centers on empowering female weavers and preserving Bhutan’s rich textile traditions while boldly reimagining them for contemporary society. Through material experimentation and thoughtful design, I explore the intersections of tradition, sustainability, and cultural identity. My all-time inspiration is Italian designer Peripalo.

“Homecoming – Ancestral Resonance and the Deep Feeling of Belonging”

This collection is a meditation on the feeling of returning home—not just to a physical space, but to an emotional and spiritual center. It is rooted in a moment of profound inspiration: witnessing the Bhutanese Cham dance.

The Cham, with its rhythmic movements, masked figures, and ritualistic energy, embodies a journey: a cycle of departure, transformation, and return. These dances speak of protection, identity, and reverence. In their flowing layers and bold silhouettes, I saw both the mystery and clarity that define what it means to find your way back to yourself.

In this collection, I translate that experience into woven abstractions. The textures echo the layered garments of the dancers, while the compositions evoke the dynamic motion of the ritual, transforming it into wearable art.

At its core, this collection is a gesture of return—to ritual, to self, to home.
