About

When you hear the expressions Gross National Happiness or the first carbon negative country, you know we are talking about this small Himalayan nation called Bhutan. It has walked an amazing developmental journey that pivoted on spiritual wellbeing, sustainable surrounding and mindful approach to every priority and action. In fact, the leaders of Bhutan have all along, maintained a magical sanctuary of human growth and contentment, while in quest for modern progress. Which is also why Bhutan has written some of the extraordinary conservation stories of our time. The same principles and values are infused in the daily lives and practices. For generations, nature and spirituality inspired our tradition and customs, this includes the way we dress and design. So, Bhutan Fashion Week is one extraordinary platform that will showcase Bhutan’s unique textile and the universe of creation around it. Here, the fabrics are the pathways of our sustainable goals.

Who?

Department of Media, Creative Industry and Intellectual Property (DoMCIIP), in collaboration with Royal Textile Academy, present the first of a kind initiative that celebrates Bhutanese textiles, designs and creativity like never before. They bring together the Bhutanese behind the handlooms, sketches and needles, to mention a few, who will flaunt their work to not just the locals, but the international names and brands that have inspired millions around the world.

Why?

It is one thing to create and quite another to share what you create. BMF will allow our talents to work closely with international counterparts, showcasing the product of pride that will also enable them to lay claims of the ownership of what we create. Through the blend of Bhutanese beauty and international appeal, we intend to draw eyeballs from around the world. In this renewed effort and conviction, we aim to get our fabrics and designs featuring alongside the renowned brands and market, one step at a time.

When?

This special event comes to you during the fall. Autumn season is all about returning to mother nature, the transformation that exudes colours and shades of the earth. Therefore, we cannot think of a better ambience than to put together the Bhutan Fashion Week, hopefully an annual event, starting 27th October to 1st November 2025.

How?

The plan is to start small. BFW will serve as a national platform where designers, brands, buyers, media and influencers come together to not just set trends but to narrate Bhutan’s story through fashion. Our small country has always held a baton of sustainability in the maze of modernity. We will share about what truly matters, as we prepare for it and as we celebrate the big week. As much as we work with the local talents, we at BFM anticipate presence and participation of global enthusiasts who will support us as well as show us the way. This is one small step for Bhutan but a giant leap for our modest fashion industry. We aspire to rub shoulders with the “big four” fashion weeks in the world one day. For now, we will keep updating our friends and wellwishers about the milestones and developments leading up to the big event. See you there!
